The longest college football season in history has just one game remaining. One hundred and thirty two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams have seen their seasons come to an end, and now only two remain: Notre Dame and Ohio State.

The Fighting Irish will be looking to end a long drought, having not been national champions since 1988. The Buckeyes won the inaugural College Football Playoff (CFP) in 2014, but they will have been disappointed not to add at least one more title in the years since given their consistently solid teams.

Monday night offers the chance to change all of that. Here’s everything you need to know about the CFP National Championship.

The National Championship between Ohio State and Notre Dame begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Recent results indicate that Ohio State is the strong favorite for the title. The Buckeyes have defeated the Fighting Irish in each of the last two seasons, have not lost to Notre Dame since before World War II, and have enjoyed a more straightforward postseason.

After comfortably overcoming Tennessee and Oregon in the first round and Rose Bowl, respectively, Ohio State beat an excellent Texas team 28-14 in the semifinal thanks to two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

In Will Howard, the team has a quarterback whose rating is second only to Miami standout Cam Ward this season. The 23-year-old has racked up 3,779 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions to add to his 169 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is often on the end of Howard’s passes – the true freshman has 71 receptions for 1,227 yards and 14 touchdowns.

On paper, the Buckeyes simply have more quality than their opponents. But the Fighting Irish’s postseason has been characterized by grit and determination, and head coach Marcus Freeman will be instilling the same never-say-die attitude in his players.

A comfortable 27-17 win over the Indiana Hoosiers was followed up by a 23-10 victory against the Georgia Bulldogs in testing circumstances – the Sugar Bowl was delayed by a day due to the New Orleans terror attack.

In the semifinal, the Fighting Irish found themselves 10-3 down to Penn State at halftime but a big second half from Riley Leonard and a field goal from Mitch Jeter with seven seconds remaining proved the difference as Notre Dame won 27-24.

Leonard will be crucial once again if ND is to get anything from this game. The senior has 2,606 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns and just eight interceptions this season. Combined with his 16 rushing touchdowns and leadership skills which teammates and coaches routinely highlight, it is no surprise that Leonard was named the offensive MVP in both the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl.

In a twist of fate, Leonard and Howard were roommates at the Manning Passing Academy last summer. The former revealed this week that he has even been texting Archie Manning every day ahead of the final.

Nonetheless, despite the offensive quality on the field, there is a good chance that Monday’s game will be decided by whichever team has the better defense.

Statistically, the Buckeyes have the best defense in college football this season, across a number of metrics. Never has that been more evident than in the semifinal, when Jack Sawyer took down Texas QB Quinn Ewers on fourth-and-goal with two minutes left, forcing a fumble before recovering the ball and running 83 yards for the touchdown to secure the win, as well as his own place as a school legend.

The Fighting Irish are also defensively excellent, second only to Ohio State in both average points allowed and average pass yards allowed. But Notre Dame fans will be hoping that long-term injuries to the likes of Benjamin Morrison, Jordan Botelho and Boubacar Traore do not finally catch up with their defense.

Ryan Day had defensive end Jack Sawyer, middle right, to thank for the Cotton Bowl's game-defining play.

“We’ve got to play our best against Notre Dame. This is a very, very good team. They are a very resilient team. They play together. I think Riley Leonard is a tremendous leader and a tremendous player and a winner, and their coaching staff does a great job. Got a lot of respect for their players and their coaches. This is going to be a complete battle, and we know that. We’ve got to play our best game this season in the last one.”

“These are the types of games where that stage is set to become a legend. I think these guys know that. But again, all the focus, and I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this, has got to be on the next game. If we think anything that we’ve done leading up to this point has anything to do with what’s going to happen in this game, we are dead wrong. So wipe that slate completely clean, and then we’ve got to go back and have the discipline to continue to do the work that we’ve done in the last three games going into this game right here.”

“There will be time to tell the story after the season, but the only way the story is told is if we win.”

Will Howard had his doubters while at Kansas State, but has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football this season.

“I do have to kind of pinch myself at times and be like ‘Man, I’m in the national championship.’ But at the same time, it is where we expected to be. We got ready for this season saying that if we were going to come out of it saying it was a success, we were going to have to play 16, 17 games, and here we are. So I’m just proud of our guys, that we got to this point. But like I said last week, the job’s not finished. It’s not finished until we win.”

“We’ve come all this way, but it means really nothing if we don’t finish it the right way and win this last one. It’s the national championship, I would hope that we don’t need much more motivation than that. All of our goals and aspirations are right here in front of us.”

“(Notre Dame’s defense) do a great job. They play a lot of men, and they want to challenge you. I think they do a really good job of being physical, but also being smart. They don’t get a lot of penalties. They shadow guys really well. Obviously, they’re missing their guy, Morrison, but I think 29 (cornerback Christian Gray) and 15 (cornerback Leonard Moore) both do a great job too. Number 1 (safety Jordan Clark) in the slot’s a solid player. Number 0’s (safety Xavier Watts) a stud. All across the board they’ve got guys. But we’ve got guys too.”

The National Championship will see Marcus Freeman face off against his alma mater, having spent five seasons between 2004 and 2008 as a linebacker for Ohio State.

“If you need that (Notre Dame’s loss to Ohio State last year) to motivate you to get ready for this game, then you’re not the right person. That’s the reality of it. We don’t need motivation to be prepared for this game.”

“We’ve got a chance to play in the national championship game. This isn’t about the past. This is about this opportunity we have right in front of us, and we’ll continue to focus on this opportunity right in front of us.”

“It would be something special. Obviously, this place hasn’t won a national championship since 1988, and every year the aspirations are to win a national championship. That’s why all these players choose to come to Notre Dame, one of the reasons, is to be a part of a program that can win a national championship.”

“I think it’s something that they’ll be able to say for the rest of their lives is they were part of a national championship football team. There’s a lot of work that goes into getting to that outcome, and that’s what we’ve got to focus on, but it would be special for this university and for these players that have poured so much work into getting the results that we have.”

Riley Leonard was named offensive MVP in both the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl, as well as MVP in the 2022 Military Bowl while at Duke.

“I thought this (getting to the national championship) would happen. That’s why I came here. Even my girlfriend, I was talking to her the other day, and a bunch of people were texting her like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can’t believe you guys made it, this is crazy.’ Even she was like, ‘Riley, this isn’t that surprising. We expected this.’”

“It’s really cool to have those late-night conversations with him (Ohio State QB Howard, while the two were roommates at the Manning Passing Academy) just about life and whatever. To see where we are now, it’s really cool because he’s a person I respect a lot, and obviously, I always try to root for other quarterbacks in college, especially after I meet them at that camp because you realize we’re all just dudes, all just kids trying to play the best for our teams and our universities. Any chance I can to see how he’s doing, I try to look.”

“Obviously, it would mean the world to me (to win). It’s kind of something I’ve dreamed of my whole life. To be at a school like this and be able to represent a school like this and lead them to a national championship so far, it’s truly an honor and something I don’t take for granted.”

“I take a lot of pride in wearing the blue and gold. I know our fans for a very long time have been very loyal to this program, through the ups and downs since 1988. It would be an honor to deliver them another one.”

Oppo’s upcoming Find N5 foldable phone is barely thicker than its own USB-C port when unfurled, according to photos released by the company. The flagship, which we’re expecting to be re-branded as the OnePlus Open 2 for its US release, will also feature best-in-class resistance to water.

Oppo has been steadily teasing the Find N5 on Chinese social network Weibo for the past week. Find series product manager Zhou Yibao has now shared photos that highlight its size, adding that the obstacle to making it any thinner is now “the limit of the charging port.”

The photos follow a video from last week, in which Zhou compares a hidden Find N5 to a series of everyday objects, demonstrating that it’s comparable in thickness to two Chinese yuan coins, a stack of four ID cards, or exactly 39 sticky notes.

The company claims the Find N5 is the thinnest foldable yet. That title is currently held by the Honor Magic V3, which is 4.35mm thick when open, meaning the Find N5 must be close to 4mm. That explains why it looks about half the size of the 8.25mm iPhone 16 Pro Max it’s shown next to in the photos. For reference, a USB-C port is 2.6mm at minimum.

In a separate post, Zhou teased the phone’s waterproofing, boasting that it’s IPX9-rated. That means it currently has no official dust protection (the ‘X’), but has been tested to withstand high-temperature and high-pressure jets of water. It’s also rated IPX8 for submersion in water, and IPX6 for lower temperature water jets. This month’s OnePlus 13 is IP69-rated, with dust protection as well.

Oppo’s previous foldable, the Find N3 (the N4 was skipped because of the number’s association with death in China), eventually launched in the West as the OnePlus Open. If the same happens again, it should pose some serious competition for Samsung and Google’s current generation of foldables. We’ll find out more when the Find N5 launches in China next month.

It appeared the Baltimore Ravens were ready to shock the Buffalo Bills with an improbable comeback and send their divisional round playoff game to overtime. After trailing by 11 points at halftime, Lamar Jackson engineered a second-half comeback, highlighted by an eight-play, 88-yard drive late in the fourth quarter that was capped by an Isaiah Likely touchdown with 1:33 remaining.

All Baltimore needed was the two-point conversion to tie the game. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken dialed up a play to get veteran tight end Mark Andrews open in the flat. Jackson saw him, threw the ball his way … and Andrews dropped it. The Ravens were unable to recover the ensuing onside kick, and the game was over with the Bills advancing to the AFC Championship game with a 27-25 victory.

You could argue that one play doesn’t determine the outcome of a 60-minute contest, but this Andrews drop was final nail in the coffin of the Ravens’ 2024 season. And Andrews had a nightmare fourth quarter. Before his pivotal drop, he also fumbled away possession on Baltimore’s previous drive. Monken gave him a chance at redemption in crunch time, and he couldn’t come through.

After the game, Ravens coach John Harbaugh addressed the critical mistake by Andrews, and said his tight end will handle this adversity the right way because of his high character.

“There’s nobody that has more heart, and cares more, and fights more than Mark. We wouldn’t be here without Mark Andrews,” Harbaugh said. “Mark will handle it fantastic, like he always does, because he’s a high-character person, he’s a tough person and he’s a good person. Proud of him, just like I’m proud of all the guys.”

Andrews hadn’t dropped a pass since Week 6, per ESPN. He had two drops on Sunday night. The Ravens had Super Bowl aspirations in 2024, but weren’t able to make it back to the AFC Championship game.

Whether TikTok gets banned in the U.S. or not, Instagram is certainly making a flurry of moves that seemingly align with trying to present itself as the best alternative for users.

Today, Instagram has officially announced that users can now create 3-minute Reels in the app, allowing some additional time for your short-form masterpieces.

Instagram 3 minute Reels

As explained by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri:

“Starting today, you can upload Reels to Instagram up to three minutes long. Now, historically, it’s only been 90 seconds, and that’s because we’ve wanted to focus Instagram on short-form video, not on long-form video. But we’ve heard a lot of feedback from a lot of you creators out there that 90 seconds is just too short, so we’re hoping that upping that limit up to three minutes will help you tell the stories that you really want to tell.”

But hang on, didn’t Instagram just tell us, like, a few months ago that videos longer than 90 seconds is a negative for content peformance?

Yes, yes it did:

Instagram longer reels

In fact, Instagram has repeatedly instructed creators that posting longer Reels is a bad idea, including this tip that it shared earlier this month:

Instagram 3 minute Reels

So, I guess, you can post longer Reels if you want, but you probably shouldn’t, based on Instagram’s repeated advice?

In any event, Instagram has been experimenting with longer Reels for some time, with 10-minute Reels even tested with some users.

So it’s not a new concept, while it could also better align Reels with TikTok, which enables users to post longer videos in-stream. YouTube also officially extended the length of Shorts to three minutes earlier this month, after announcing it last year, and in this sense, Instagram’s really just looking to move in line with the competition, and enable more creative opportunity for its users.

But whether you should do it, I don’t know.

It all comes down to the content itself, and your audience, and maybe there is more opportunity in longer clips than Instagram has previously seen.

But the current advice from IG is that you shouldn’t post Reels longer than 90 seconds.

But now, you can. If you want.

The day before Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th president, he and his followers celebrated with an hours-long rally at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

“Tomorrow at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity, and pride,” Trump told the crowd to loud cheers.

“Once and for all we’re going to end the reign of a failed and corrupt political establishment in Washington, a failed administration.”

Trump is set to appear at the same venue tomorrow after his swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, after he cancelled an outdoor parade due to expected frigid weather. Supporters will also be able to view an inauguration livestream from the venue.

He took the opportunity on Sunday to preview several of his Day 1 actions, including on border security, energy, and ending the Biden administration’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in government agencies.

He also celebrated his election win and took credit for multiple recent developments, including the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel that went into effect on Sunday.

“I know that Biden is saying they made the deal, well,” he said, trailing off and chuckling as the crowd booed.

Trump’s pick for Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, joined President Biden’s Middle East envoy in the final push of talks on the deal.

Trump also cheered the fact that Tiktok, the popular video app, is back online. TikTok was taken offline Saturday night in compliance with a law that effectively banned the service nationwide unless it splits off from its China-based owner, but Trump on Sunday posted on Truth Social that he would pause the law and extend a liability shield to technology companies that support TikTok.

At the rally on Sunday, he reiterated a proposal he made on social media: for the U.S. government to take a 50% stake in the social media platform, without providing further details.

His promotion of Tiktok is a reversal from 2020, when Trump attempted to ban the platform.

‘Call to action’ for America

Trump supporters stood outside in the chilly rain all morning ahead of the rally’s start.

“I wouldn’t have missed it for anything,” said Cindy Pugh, who traveled from the Minneapolis suburbs. “Donald Trump is the best president of my lifetime. He has done so much sacrificially for Americans, myself included.”

Trump in November won the popular vote for the first time. That fact makes this election feel different from his win in 2016, Pugh said.

“This win reflects a compelling call to action by the American people to listen to us, to act on our behalf, not to be beholden to the political establishment. So it does feel different to me,” she said.

Multiple rally speeches took on a darker tone, however.

“All of you wearing the MAGA hats, it used to be an act of civil disobedience,” political commentator Megyn Kelly told the crowd, referring to ‘Make America Great Again’ hats. “But wearing that hat for much of the past eight years has been an act of courage, too.”

She concluded her speech with an order: “Do not bend. Never bow.”

And Trump adviser Stephen Miller linked Trump’s multiple legal cases to an implication that his supporters were themselves threatened by Trump’s opponents.

Trump was charged in several criminal cases, though his criminal conviction for 34 felony counts in New York state was the only in go to to trial.

“They indicted him, they tried to imprison him and to take away his freedom, to take away his family, to take away his business, to take away your voice, your future, to take away your hopes, your dreams, your government, your country,” Miller told the crowd.

The rally featured appearances by musicians Kid Rock and Lee Greenwood, as well as actor Jon Voight and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, whom Trump has said will lead the Department of Government Efficiency group meant to recommend government spending cuts. Trump did not mention Vivek Ramaswamy, the former Republican presidential candidate that he also initially asked to lead DOGE.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a question about the rally crowd’s size. Capital One Arena has a capacity of around 20,000 seats, according to local outlets. Supporters filled the floor and lower two levels of seats of the arena, as well as about half of the top tier.

The incoming first couple have launched a pair of meme coins in the leadup to president-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Melania Trump launched her cryptocurrency $MELANIA in a social media post Sunday, sending her husband’s cryptocurrency $TRUMP, announced two days earlier, plummeting.

“The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now. https://melaniameme.com,” the future first lady wrote on X Sunday.”

Meme coins are a type of highly volatile cryptocurrency inspired by popular internet or cultural trends. They carry no intrinsic value but can soar, or plummet, in price.

“My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE!” Trump wrote on X Friday. “It’s time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community. GET YOUR $TRUMP NOW. Go to http://gettrumpmemes.com — Have Fun!”

Both coins are trading on the Solana blockchain. Trump’s meme coin skyrocketed over the weekend and was trading at more than $70 by Sunday afternoon, according to CoinGecko.

However, the president-elect’s coin nosedived to $40 after Melania revealed her own coin. It has since recovered some of those losses and was trading around $60 early Monday. $MELANIA was trading just over $12 early Monday, according to CoinGecko.

$TRUMP is the first cryptocurrency endorsed by the incoming president, who once trashed bitcoin as “based on thin air.”

In July 2024, Trump addressed crypto’s largest convention and has since appointed Howard Lutnick, who supports the cryptocurrency company Tether, to run the US Commerce Department. Lutnick is among other crypto enthusiasts appointed to Trump’s next administration.

The $TRUMP logo seen on a smartphone on January 19, 2024.

The Trump coin’s market capitalization, which is based on the 200 million coins circulating, is capped at $13 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. The meme coin’s website said there will be 1 billion Trump coins over the next three years.

Both $MELANIA and $TRUMP’s websites contain disclaimers saying the coins are “intended to function as a support for, and engagement with” the values of their respective brands and “are not intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type.”

The website says the meme coin is not politically affiliated. But 80% of the coin’s supply is held by Trump Organization-affiliate CIC Digital and Fight Fight Fight LLC, which are both subject to a three-year unlocking schedule – so they cannot sell all of their holdings at once.

The $TRUMP coin’s website says it is “the only official Trump meme.”

“Now, you can get your piece of history. This Trump Meme celebrates a leader who doesn’t back down, no matter the odds,” the website reads.

The first Powerball jackpot of 2025 was sold in Oregon and is worth $328.5 million, according to lottery officials.

The winner purchased the winning ticket in Beaverton on Thursday, Jan. 17, the Oregon Lottery said. The retail location will not be revealed until a winner has come forward.

The winning numbers for the Saturday drawing were: 14, 31, 35, 64 and 69 and Powerball 23.

The winner has a year to claim their prize, Oregon Lottery spokesperson Melanie Mesaros said. After the winning ticket is presented, “it will take time before a winner can be identified due to security and payment processes.”

Oregon lottery winners, with few exceptions, cannot remain anonymous, Mesaros said.

The winner will have a choice between an annuitized prize of $328.5 million or a lump-sum payment of $146.4 million, according to lottery officials, which are both options before taxes.

Last year, the largest Powerball prize won in Oregon — a $1.3 billion jackpot — was split between a Portland man, his wife, and friend.

Before Saturday, the most recent Powerball jackpot was sold in December in New York and was worth $256 million.

Powerball is a multi-state jackpot operated by 44 states, plus the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Donald Trump will be sworn into office Monday, making him the first convicted felon to serve as president and the second president to serve two nonconsecutive terms.

President Joe Biden is expected to attend the inauguration, watching his predecessor also become his successor.

When is the inauguration?

The ceremony takes place at midday in the Capitol rotunda. Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance will take their oaths of office at around noon ET. The ceremony traditionally marks the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next.

Biden’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’ terms end at noon, as directed by the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Inauguration festivities, though, will continue throughout the day.

The ceremony was originally supposed to be held outside the Capitol, but it was moved indoors because of the cold weather forecast.

Where can I watch?

Tune in to live coverage on NBC News, MSNBC and NBC News Now. An NBC News Special Report will begin at 10 a.m. on NBC and NBC News Now.

You can read the latest coverage on NBCNews.com’s live blog.

Who is attending?

Former presidents, members of Trump’s family and high-level technology executives will attend the inauguration.

So will Biden, as is customary, even though Trump bucked tradition by not attending his inauguration in 2021.

Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will attend, according to their teams. First lady Jill Biden, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — who lost the 2016 election to Trump — will also be there. Former first lady Michelle Obama does not plan to attend, according to her office.

Several prominent tech moguls were planning to attend the inauguration before it was moved indoors, including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk (a close Trump adviser), according to an official involved with inauguration planning. It is unclear how the move indoors affects the high-profile guests originally expected to attend, including tech executives and foreign dignitaries.

All five of Trump’s children are also expected to be there.

Several musical guests will perform, including Carrie Underwood, the Village People, Kid Rock, Lee Greenwood and Nelly.

What happens?

On Monday morning, Trump will head to the White House for a customary tea with the Bidens.

Traditionally, members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies meet at the White House to escort the president-elect and the vice president-elect, along with their spouses, to the Capitol, where the ceremony takes place, according to the committee’s website.

The outgoing president usually attends the inauguration, as well, though Trump bucked tradition by not attending Biden’s in 2021.

Trump and Vance will be sworn in inside the Capitol. Trump said Washington’s Capitol One Arena would be opened for spectators to watch from afar, adding that he would join the crowd after he is sworn in.

The new president then delivers an inaugural address during the ceremony. In his 2017 address, Trump recalled scenes of “American carnage,” saying the “American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”

Trump told NBC News‘ Kristen Welker in an interview Saturday that his inaugural address’ theme would be “unity and strength, and also the word ‘fairness.'”

“Because you have to be treating people fairly. You can’t just say, ‘Oh, everything’s going to be wonderful.’ You know, we went through hell for four years with these people. And so, you know, something has to be done about it,” he said.

After the inaugural ceremony, the outgoing president typically leaves the area by helicopter, a tradition that began when Gerald Ford left the presidency in 1977, according to the joint committee’s website.

The committee will also host an inaugural luncheon, which the newly sworn-in president and vice president typically attend. This year, Obama, Clinton and Bush will not attend, according to their offices.

A parade typically marches from the Capitol to the White House during inaugurations, but because of the cold, there will instead be an indoor march in Capitol One Arena in downtown Washington.

Trump will have an Oval Office signing ceremony, during which he may enact executive actions. Trump intends to sign more than 50 executive orders after he takes the oath, including some that he may sign publicly, a person in his transition operation said.

Trump made a series of promises on the campaign trail about what he would do on day one, from starting a mass deportation program to pardoning Jan. 6 defendants.

In 2017, Trump ended the day by attending multiple balls. This year, he is set to speak at three balls.

Who plans the inauguration?

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has been responsible for planning inaugurations since 1901, when William McKinley took the oath of office to begin his second term, according to the committee’s website.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., chairs the committee, which is made up of three members from each congressional chamber, split evenly between the two parties.

Separately, Trump has a presidential inaugural committee, which handles inaugural events that are held outside the Capitol.
