In a strong show of bravery, the Indian Army on Monday demonstrated how its air defence systems successfully stopped Pakistani missile and drone attacks, which were aimed at several cities in Punjab, including Amritsar, but were intercepted in time, preventing serious damage to key places like the Golden Temple. The air defence systems included the indigenous AKASH missile and L-70 Air Defence Guns.
The demonstration comes amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people, led to India launching Operation Sindoor on May 7, which targeted major terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Following the Indian strike, Pakistan launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana. These attacks were effectively stopped by the Indian armed forces.

Major General Kartik C Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 15 Infantry Division, highlighted the success of the air defence systems during the demonstration.
Seshadri explained that the Army had anticipated Pakistan’s likely targets, knowing that the Pakistani military lacked legitimate military objectives. Indian forces expected attacks on military bases, civilian areas, and religious sites — with the Golden Temple being one of the most likely targets.
In response, the Army deployed additional advanced air defence systems to provide full protection to the area, especially around the Golden Temple. Seshadri said, that the Indian Army “mobilised additional modern air defence assets to give a holistic air defence umbrella cover to Golden Temple.”
He further stated that the Pakistani military, after facing repeated defeats in direct confrontations, has turned to using proxies and terrorists to carry out its operations. Often, Pakistani posts assist infiltrators by firing towards Indian positions to create distractions.
He added that the Indian Army is aware of vulnerable areas along the border — especially where rivers or difficult terrain prevent the construction of strong fences. These areas have now been turned into zones where infiltrators are eliminated using superior tactics and weaponry, while the supporting Pakistani posts are also targeted with heavy damage.
