Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday responded sharply to Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s remarks questioning the origin of terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack, saying the government has solid proof that they came from Pakistan.
Shah stated that the government has clear evidence that the attackers were Pakistani nationals.
“We have their voter ID numbers. The rifles and cartridges used were made in Pakistan,” he said, backing his claim with specific details.
During the discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, Shah accused Chidambaram of defending Pakistan by casting doubt on the attackers’ origin.
The Union Home Minister said, “Yesterday they (Congress) were asking us where the terrorists came from and who was responsible for it. Of course, it is our responsibility as we are in power.”
“Chidambaram ji raised the question — What is the proof that the terrorists came from Pakistan? I want to ask him what he will get by saving Pakistan. When he says this, it means they are giving a clean chit to Pakistan,” he added.
He further criticised the Congress leader further, saying, “The former Home Minister of this country is giving Pakistan a clean chit in front of the entire world.”
Participating in the special discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, Shah announced that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were eliminated in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Srinagar.
He said the terrorists were killed on Monday under Operation Mahadev and identified as Suleman alias Faizal, Afghani, and Jibran. “Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Afghani was also an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terroris, Jibran too was a notorious and wanted terrorist. All these three terrorists involved in the killing of our citizens at Baisaran valley in Pahalgam have now been eliminated,” Shah told the House.
To confirm their identities, those detained for aiding the terrorists were brought in and confirmed the three were involved in the April 22 attack, Shah said.
“People who used to supply food, provide shelter to the terrorists were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were detained by our agencies,” he added.
