PM Modi-Trump Meeting News Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India and the United States have agreed to double their trade by 2030, marking a significant step in economic cooperation. Speaking at the White House alongside US President Donald Trump, Modi drew a parallel between America’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) and India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047”, coining the phrase “Make India Great Again” (MIGA).
“When America and India work together, this MEGA plus MIGA becomes a ‘mega partnership for prosperity,’” Modi said, emphasising the growing economic ties between the two nations. The commitment to expanding trade signals a new phase of bilateral engagement, with both countries aiming to enhance market access, investment, and innovation-driven collaboration.

India-US trade deal
A limited trade deal with the US that could cover tariff concessions for certain goods and broad agreements on investment will figure high on the agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington DC. Indian officials have been readying for a mini trade deal on the lines of the US-Japan trade agreement, ET had reported.
India has already made a series of trade concessions to Trump.
India-US defence ties
India and the US on Thursday agreed to chart out an “ambitious” defence cooperation agenda, which includes stepped-up operational, intelligence, logistics and defence-industrial collaboration. This was discussed in a telephonic conversation between defence minister Rajnath Singh and his US counterpart Pete Hegseth.
During Modi’s visit, New Delhi may signal its willingness to buy more defense products, such as fighter jets and drones, Bloomberg has reported.
Nuclear technology
India will also discuss cooperation in advanced and small modular nuclear reactors with the US during Modi’s trip. According to Oil and Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, nuclear energy—especially small and modular reactors—will be a key topic in Modi’s discussions with Trump.
Cross-border investment
India is also expected to seek investment commitments from the US similar to those in its trade pact with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), ET has reported.
Immigration
Trump wants more assistance from India on unauthorized immigration. India’s government is prepared to work with the Trump administration to identify and take back all its citizens residing illegally in the US, an early signal from New Delhi that it’s willing to comply with the incoming American president and avoid a trade war.
