A day after former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was convicted in rape case, an MP/MLAs special court in Bengaluru on Saturday sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Revanna, convicted in one of the four rape and sexual abuse cases registered against him, pleaded the court for a reduced sentence, claiming he had done “nothing wrong” and was being targeted because of his “fast political growth”.

Revanna broke down in court during the sentencing hearing, stating that he is a BE Mechanical graduate who has always succeeded on merit. “My only mistake was that I grew too fast in politics,” he told the court.

Challenging the prosecution’s case, Revanna said, “They say I have raped multiple women, but none of the women came forward on their own. They appeared just six days before the Lok Sabha elections last year. The prosecution brought them deliberately and made them file complaints.”

Revanna was convicted in one of the multiple cases filed against him, while investigations into the others are ongoing.
