We see an overhead shot of Dallas, Texas. This is the 27th time Monday Night Raw has happened in this city.

Pre-Show Arrivals

Seth “Freakin” Rollins, in a WILD outfit, is shown arriving at the arena. Drew McIntyre, his opponent for the evening, is also shown arriving. CM Punk, who declared for the Royal Rumble last week, is in the building. Penta will battle Pete Dunne.

Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley is shown arriving at the American Airlines Arena earlier today when Nia Jax ambushed her! Jax viciously slammed her into the wall a few times and avalanched her. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce broke it up with the aid of WWE officials.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett are standing at ringside. Cole says Pat McAfee is off for the evening at another event. They discuss Nia Jax’s attack on Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley.

“Main Event” Jey Uso addresses World Heavyweight Champion Gunther

“Main Event” Jey Uso makes his way to the ring through the crowd. Michael Cole wildly dances at ringside. Uso shakes hands with him when he gets to ringside. The packed crowd at the American Airlines Arena are on their feet. The WWE crew gets great shots of the crowd dancing with Jey Uso.

Jey Uso is set to face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship this Saturday on Saturday Night’s Main Event. An advertisement for the match has a reverse image of Jey Uso, showing his glasses as saying “TEEY.” Uso says, “‘Main Event’ Jey Uso is now in your city!” This weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he’s taking home the big one.

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther’s music hits, and the Ring General makes his way to the ring. Gunther stands across the ring from his opponent this Saturday. Gunther wants to guess that the next thing Uso will say is that he will win the World Heavyweight Championship. Uso says he was going to say he was going to beat Gunther, take the title, and hang it up in his room. Gunther says Uso is a really “funny little man.” Gunther says he was looking forward to facing Uso on Saturday Night’s Main Event after he refocused himself… until today when he saw Uso walking in acting like a complete dork. Uso was acting like a company mascot for the crowd. At this point, it doesn’t matter to Gunther. Gunther could just as well be challenged by Jimmy Uso. Uso warns him not to say anything about his brother. Gunther says it doesn’t matter what Uso says because he never follows up with his words. The people are naive enough to believe every word he says, but Gunther isn’t. Uso shows up whenever someone whistles, like his brother, cousin, and Cody Rhodes. All it means is Uso is a “useful idiot.” Uso’s words and actions do not align. Gunther’s do. Gunther holds up the title and says, “On Saturday, when the bell rings, I’m going to expose you for the flash in the pan who has no business being this close to the World Heavyweight Championship.”

Uso looks fired up and upset. The crowd chants, “YEET!” Uso says Gunther is right again. Everything that came out of Gunther’s mouth is true. Uso is a mascot… and the crowd is his team. They’re his squad because they ride with him, slide with him, and on Saturday, they’ll be with him when he beats Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship (YEET). Uso told Gunther that he respected him, but Gunther will respect him as well. Only one of them is standing in the ring that main-evented WrestleMania, and it’s not Gunther.

An irate Gunther punches Uso down and stomps him. Gunther pulls him to his feet and rocks him with a forearm. Uso quickly takes Gunther down and punches away at him. Gunther tries to grab him, but Uso punches away at him. Uso knocks him out of the ring with a superkick. Uso picks up the World Heavyweight Championship and holds it up. Gunther pulls off his jacket and is furious. Uso lays the title down near the ropes and challenges Gunther. Gunther gets on the apron but soon gets down and takes the title with him.

Sami Zayn addresses the WWE Universe

Sami Zayn is already in the ring, and the crowd is singing his theme. Zayn thanks the crowd for the reception. He’s not going to beat around the bush. Zayn spoke to Adam Pearce, and he has officially entered the 2025 Royal Rumble match. Last week, Seth Rollins told him that he spends all his time helping other people and that maybe it’s time for Zayn to help himself. That got him thinking about what he wants. Zayn started to think about 14-year-old him and the millions of people worldwide who dream of ever becoming pro wrestlers, as well as the thousands who actually get to be wrestlers. Then, there is the small group that is called WWE Superstars. Then, there is the smallest group of all: the top tier of WWE. That’s where Zayn is now. Zayn believes in his heart that he’s as good as any in that group. That group of guys is in the Royal Rumble. The only difference between him and them, guys like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Drew McIntyre, is that they have a World Championship to their name. Zayn doesn’t. Zayn has had a great life and career. Zayn doesn’t need the World Championship to complete him. The fans have supported him through the years. Their support has meant more to him than any World Championship could ever mean. Zayn doesn’t need the World Championship, but damn it, he wants it! The 14-year-old in him wants it. He’s still with Zayn and is with him every time he’s in the ring. Zayn wants it, so he is going to take it!

Kevin Owens’ music hits. Owens heads to the ring in a Bret Hart jacket with the WWE Winged Eagle belt over his shoulder. Michael Cole makes sure to mention that Owens is not a champion. He stole the title from Cody Rhodes. Owens stares across the ring from Zayn. Zayn says he knew it was only a matter of time before Owens came here. How does Owens want to do this? Owens asks what he means. Zayn says the world saw what he did to Cody Rhodes when he teamed with Roman Reigns. How is this going to go down? Owens says he’ll admit that he was a bit upset when he saw Zayn teaming with Reigns at Survivor Series. Then, Owens thought about it. It’s not like when Rhodes teamed with Reigns. Zayn had a lot of history with Reigns, just like they do. Reigns did some terrible things to Zayn that he chose to overlook. Owens has done some terrible things to Zayn that he has overlooked. Zayn forgave him, just like he forgave Reigns. That’s who Zayn is. Zayn is a good person.

Owens is here as his friend to say he believes wholeheartedly that Zayn will win the Royal Rumble. Zayn deserves to win the Royal Rumble, go to WrestleMania, and fight for the WWE Championship. Zayn will do it. Then, they can accomplish one more thing together. They’ve done so much in this business that they dreamed of 25 years ago. They main-evented WrestleMania together and won the Tag Titles. Now, they need to main-event WrestleMania for the WWE Championship. When Zayn wins the Royal Rumble, they will get to do that. It will happen as long as he walks out of the Royal Rumble as the WWE Champion. Owens knows both of those things will happen. Owens knows Zayn will win the Royal Rumble because he’s got Zayn’s back. Owens knows he’ll walk out of the Royal Rumble as the WWE Champion. Just like Zayn had Reigns’ back, Zayn has his back. As his best friend and brother, if he needs Zayn, he knows he’ll be there. Owens walks off, and Zayn looks conflicted.

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens will have a Contract Signing for the Royal Rumble, moderated by Shawn Michaels, this Saturday at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Sheamus is going to fulfill his destiny by winning the last title he hasn’t won on Saturday. Sheamus says, “Let’s go, Irish.”

WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker walks up and holds the title up. Breakker says this is as close as he’ll get to the title. On Saturday, he’ll break him like an old man. Breakker warns Sheamus to retire. Sheamus shoves him away, and Breakker laughs.

McIntyre turns his attention back to Rollins, who slowly gets up in the ring. McIntyre grabs Rollins and says they should be fighting on the same team. McIntyre then moves as Zayn attempts a Helluva Kick. Zayn accidentally hits Rollins with the Helluva Kick! Zayn is not happy. Rollins furiously looks at Zayn as the show comes to an end.

Instagram announced a new video editing app, called Edits, on the same day that rival video service TikTok briefly went dark in response to a federal ban. X also touted the launch of a dedicated video tab in its mobile app.

The new Meta Platforms Inc. app, which won’t be available until February, will offer “a full suite of creative tools,” according to a post on Sunday from Adam Mosseri, the head of the social media platform. People can use Edits to store video drafts, edit clips and add features like green screens, overlays and transitions, according to a Meta spokesperson.

  • The US Dollar slides 1% in the US Dollar Index, measured against six major currencies.
  • The WSJ issues a piece that first a task force needs to be formed on tariffs.
  • The US Dollar Index (DXY) snaps 109.00 and heads towards 108.00

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the Greenback’s value against six major currencies, is sinking 1% just hours ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States (US). Several asset classes in the US will remain closed, such as the Wall Street trading floor and US bond trading, in observance of Martin Luther King’s Day. The first seismic shock in the DXY comes after headlines emerged form the Wall Street Journal that tariffs are not a part of the executive orders that President Donald Trump will issue on his first day in office, and need to be discussed further before being implemented.

All eyes will be on the aftermath of the inauguration, where President-elect Donald Trump has already confirmed in a rally on Sunday that a whole battery of new measures and executive orders will be issued. The main ones are, of course, more tariffs, mass deportation starting in Chicago, and issuing state of emergencies for energy and border security, Bloomberg reported. By issuing those last two, the upcoming President Trump can give the green light for massive drilling and mass deporting illegal immigrants without having to pass through Congress and the House of Representatives.

Daily digest market movers: Watch out for the boomerang

  • The Wall Street Journal issues a headline that confirms the Trump administration to form a task group first to discuss proper impacts from tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico before considering to issue them.
  • At 17:00 GMT, the Presidential Inauguration will take place, with Donald Trump being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
  • Due to Martin Luther King’s Day, several trading floors in the US will remain closed throughout the day.
  • Equities are very happy with the softer US Dollar. All European equities and US futures are off to a good start for this week.
  • The CME FedWatch tool projects a 55.6% chance that interest rates will remain unchanged at current levels in the May meeting, suggesting a rate cut in June. Expectations are that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will remain data-dependent with uncertainties that could influence inflation during President-elect Donald Trump’s term.
  • The US 10-year yield is trading around 4.627% and will remain at that level this Monday, as bond trading in the US is closed due to the Martin Luther King’s bank holiday.

US Dollar Index Technical Analysis: Look at the bigger picture

The US Dollar Index (DXY) sees a split division between bears and bulls. The new Trump administration is set to unleash a large number of executive orders, making it hard for markets to assess the impact. With several topics being addressed and communicated in advance, it looks like markets have already priced in a fair bit of inflationary pressure from Trumponomics. The question now will be if the markets are correct and if the DXY index will ease further from current levels on the back of an overestimation of the actual impact of the measures being imposed.

On the upside, the 110.00 psychological level remains the key resistance to beat. Further up, the next big upside level to hit before advancing any further remains at 110.79 (September 7, 2022, high). Once beyond there, it is quite a stretch to 113.91, a double top from October 2022.

On the downside, the DXY is trading alongside the ascending trend line coming from December 2023, which currently comes in around 109.10 as nearby support. In case of more downside, the next support is 107.35 (October 3, 2023, high). Further down, the  55-day Simple Moving Average (SMA) at 107.29 should catch any falling knives.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump look on as they meet with U.S. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on inauguration day of Donald Trump’s second presidential term in Washington, U.S. January 20, 2025.

U.S. stock market futures rose amid the inauguration of Donald Trump as investors bet a series of immediate actions by the incoming president would boost the economy, especially in areas like the banking and energy sectors.

Traders were also likely encouraged by news that Trump wouldn’t immediately install new tariffs on day one.

Dow Jones Industrial average futures gained 122 points, or 0.3%. S&P 500 futures added 0.3%. Nasdaq-100 futures rose 0.4%.

Regular trading on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq was closed for the Martin Luther King Day holiday, but there was limited futures trading.

Bitcoin jumped to a new record above $109,000 on Monday.

“I’ve been doing this for 49 years and we’re probably going from the most anti-business administration to the opposite,” said Stanley Druckenmiller, chairman and CEO of the Duquesne Family Office, in an interview during CNBC’s special inauguration coverage. “CEOs are somewhere between relieved and giddy…we are a believer in animal spirits.”

There will be a flurry of executive actions unveiled Monday for investors to evaluate regarding their impact on the economy. A trade memorandum from the new administration that’s expected will not impose tariffs yet. The memo will ask for investigations of China, Canada and Mexico for unfair trade practices and currency policies.

Elsewhere, the President-elect will declare a national energy emergency, according to an incoming White House official, with the goal of lowering high costs. It will expand the president’s legal options for allowing drilling in Alaska and other areas.

Other executive actions to come Monday are likely to address business deregulation and immigration restrictions.

Druckenmiller, considered one of the best ever hedge fund managers, did have some caution on the overall market because of rising interest rates.

Trump will be sworn in at noon ET Monday.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump speaks during a rally the day before he is scheduled to be inaugurated for a second term, in Washington, U.S., January 19, 2025.

Brian Snyder | Reuters

President-elect Donald Trump is poised to sign a flurry of executive orders as soon as he’s sworn in, but imposing tariffs on U.S. trading partners won’t be one of the actions Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Trump is set to issue a broad trade memorandum Monday that directs federal agencies to study and assess unfair trade practices and currency policies with other nations, especially China, Canada and Mexico. However, the memo stopped short at slapping any new duties on the countries, according to the Journal, which reviewed a summary of the memo and spoke to Trump’s advisers.

Asked about Trump’s trade policy Monday morning ahead of the inauguration, White House officials referred to the Journal story, confirming the reporting.

The president-elect’s plan on trade could be evolving from what he touted on the campaign trail. His camp has been discussing a schedule of graduated tariffs increasing by about 2% to 5% a month on trading partners, Bloomberg News reported last week.

Trump once made universal tariffs a core tenet of his economic campaign pitch, floating a 20% levy on all imports from all countries with a specifically harsh 60% rate for Chinese goods.

Many economists feared that such protectionist trade policy could make production of goods more expensive and raise consumer prices, just as the world recovers from pandemic-era inflation spikes.

Donald Trump has invited a number of tech titans to attend the inauguration, joining more traditional guests such as his cabinet nominees. Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg will attend as will Shou Chew, the head of Chinese social media giant TikTok, according to US media.

Trump has courted closer ties with the tech moguls, and his campaign benefited from disinformation spread on social media platforms such as TikTok, Musk’s X and Zuckerberg’s Facebook and Instagram.

Outgoing president Joe Biden will attend the ceremony — despite Trump’s refusal to appear at Biden’s swearing-in when he beat Trump in 2020. All living former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama — will also attend, as will their wives, except for Michelle Obama.

Heads of state are not traditionally invited, but Trump has sent invitations to a handful of foreign leaders, including some who share his right-wing politics.  Far-right Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will attend, her office confirmed Saturday.

Hungary’s Viktor Orban, Argentine President Javier Milei and China’s Xi Jinping have also been invited, but not all will attend. Xi sent Vice President Han Zheng in his place, who met Sunday with J.D. Vance, the transition office said.

Washington
CNN
 —

Donald Trump will be sworn in as president Monday, returning to power to enact his sweeping vision of America after leaving his office in shame four years ago.

Trump will become the nation’s 47th president at noon on Monday, completing a remarkable four-year arc after he left Washington as a pariah at the end of his first term. JD Vance will become its 50th vice president, a meteoric rise for a man who was elected to the Senate in 2022.

Both Trump and Vance have promised to hit the ground running to enact a wide-ranging agenda that is expected to include immediate executive actions on immigration.

The day is already shaping up to be out of the ordinary. Projected frigid temperatures in Washington, DC, prompted Trump to announce Friday that he would take the oath of office inside the US Capitol — the first time the ceremony has taken place indoors since the second inauguration of Ronald Reagan in 1985.

Here’s what to know about Inauguration Day:

Temperatures for this year’s ceremony are expected to be in the low 20s — likely the coldest since Reagan’s second inauguration.

Trump described Monday’s conditions as “dangerous” and added that he did not “want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way.”

“Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather,” he said on Truth Social on Friday.

Capitol One Arena — not far from the National Mall, where crowds would normally gather to watch the ceremony — will be opened to view the inauguration, and Trump said he would stop by the arena after his swearing-in.

The relatively small area inside the US Capitol will deprive Trump of the overflowing crowd he’d have wanted on the Mall. It will also likely cause jockeying among dignitaries and lawmakers to be able to witness Trump’s swearing-in personally.

Concerns about Inauguration Day weather come with historical context. President William Henry Harrison is widely believed to have caught a cold during his 1841 inaugural ceremony, during which he gave a two-hour speech and wore no coat or hat. He later contracted pneumonia and died one month after his inauguration.

Trump has said he will take steps to immediately enact parts of his large agenda, with executive actions pertaining to immigration enforcement expected to be released within the first hours of his second term.

CNN previously reported Trump’s plans include ordering US Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps in major cities, sending more Pentagon resources to the US southern border, placing additional restrictions on who is eligible to enter the US, and rolling back Biden-era policies.

Trump will quickly implement executive actions on immigration, energy policy and federal government operations to check off dozens of campaign policy priorities, according to two sources briefed on a Sunday call held by Trump aide Stephen Miller, who previewed the actions with senior congressional Republicans.

One of the first moves Trump said he will make as president is signing an order that delays the law that banned TikTok and briefly made the app unusable for Americans over the weekend.

The divest-or-ban law, which received bipartisan support and was signed by President Joe Biden in April, required TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app by January 19 or face it being blocked to its 170 million American users.

Trump on Sunday said he would issue an order “to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security.” He also proposed a 50-50 partnership between ByteDance and an American owner.

Trump proposed a TikTok ban during his first term but has since embraced the app because of its influence among young people. “We won on TikTok, and Republicans have never won the young vote, the youth vote,” Trump said during an inauguration eve rally in Washington on Sunday. “So I like TikTok,” he added.

Trump also has said he plans to swiftly pardon people who were convicted for their roles in the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol. CNN previously reported the president-elect’s team has drafted a slate of January 6-related pardons that Trump plans to issue on his first day.

The extent of Trump’s planned pardons is unclear. About 1,270 people have been convicted of crimes related to the attack.

Throughout the 2024 campaign, Trump vowed to seek retribution against his opponents and political enemies. Those who oppose Trump will be watching the opening hours of his second administration closely to see how quickly he carries out those threats.

He said of his political opponents last summer: “When this election is over … I would have every right to go after them.” He said that “sometimes revenge can be justified.”

Opponents of Trump, including the prosecutors who have investigated him, the lawmakers who have countered him, the political figures who have opposed him, and the news media that has covered him, will be closely watching how Trump handles his first day in office to determine whether those threats carry weight.

Trump’s first inaugural address in 2017 is remembered for its dark imagery of “American carnage.” But Trump has also shown that he can be conciliatory, if contradictory.

A brief call between Biden and Trump after the former president’s victory was described as “very friendly,” with Biden aides expressing surprise at Trump’s approach of deference and flattery. Trump has been spotted in seemingly friendly conversation with first lady Jill Biden and former President Barack Obama in the months since his victory and spoke highly of his meeting with Biden in the Oval Office after his election win.

But, at the same time, Trump has not shied away from his usual bellicose language toward the president, referring to him as “Crooked Joe Biden” on January 14.

Biden’s last official act as president will be attending the inauguration of his successor, a man he has repeatedly warned represents a fundamental threat to the future of this country.

On Monday, the 82-year-old president leaves public service, bound to retire to his home state of Delaware after a trip to California following his departure from Washington.

During his farewell speech from the Oval Office last week, Biden said his crucial legislative achievements will have long-reaching reverberations that outlast his presidency.

“I’m so proud of how much we’ve accomplished together for the American people,” Biden said, “and I wish the incoming administration success, because I want America to succeed.”

Still, the image of him relinquishing that office to same man he worked so hard to keep out could provide for one last defining moment of his presidency.

CNN will be providing live coverage of Trump’s second inauguration throughout Monday. Special live coverage begins at 7 a.m. ET and carries through the ceremony, oath of office and inaugural balls in the evening.

CNN’s special coverage will also stream live on CNN, CNN-connected TV and mobile apps, and on CNN.com. It will also stream live on Max for Max subscribers.

CNN reporters, anchors and contributors will also take part in a live chat during the swearing-in, and the CNN app will feature a custom livestream featuring on-the-ground reporting, live updates, in-depth analysis and images.
